I love this place and have been here to read. Is it frowned upon to bring a laptop and work during the day?

You can absolutely work on your laptop here! We have outlets under the bar and at all of the tables that are next to walls, and we have reliable WiFi.

Do they serve coffee? Is there an espresso machine? Is this the kind of place it would be okay to not have alcohol and hang and work/write/socialize? Thanks!

Just black coffee, no espresso machine.

is the $10 cover charge per hour a minimum to spend on food and drink, or is it in addition! Cuz I know several groups who meet there and I doubt they would spend $10 per person/hour for just a cover charge. Want to bring a small group of maybe 6

It’s a food and drink minimum. It’s not strictly enforced to the penny, but it’s an expectation that people won’t just squat for hours without being paying customers.

Are you open Labor Day?

Yes

When does the kitchen close?

Yes, the kitchen is open until 2 am every night.

DO YOU HAVE A QUIET ROOM FOR BOOK CLUB MEETINGS

This is a place to ask people who use Google. It's not the pub's site. That said, they have nooks which would probably work and could use the business.

A fun place to relax, read, have some drinks, a bite to eat, and kill an hour or two. Outside patio seating too.

Little space, lots of cozy. This is a library meets cafe meets bar. Good anytime of day kind of food, tons of books, possibly spoken word nights, board games, a berry cobbler to sing about. Seating that provides everyone separate spaces even though they're close together, fast and friendly service. Nothing but praise for this socially conscious space.

This place is an instant Portland classic. It's really just the best place ever to get some work done, catch up with a friend, or browse a fascinating collection of used books. Incredibly kid friendly, and also an impressive tap list. And the food is pretty good too! A real credit to the neighborhood.

It’s the neighborhood’s living room. ❤️ We love coming here with our kiddo. They have homey, yummy food, and books and games to borrow. It’s a cozy and comfortable place to spend an afternoon/evening, often with good music to listen to.

This place offers everything. Books, writing groups, live music, trivia night, healthy food with gluten free and vegan options. Elise purveys a vast selection of wonderful ciders, beers and kombuchas on tap. It's a warm inviting cozy place that is NOT a meat market yet is full of amazing people. This place is my home away from home.

Best theme bar in PDX by a mile! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about both books and brews and makes you feel right at home. So whether you are looking for a place to sit back and read or looking to find your new favorite book this is the place to go. Make sure to check out the Bone Tax Poem Club on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 8pm for readings by great local and regional poets.

It’s everything I hoped it would be. Quaint, charming, excellent food and drinks, lovely staff, cozy atmosphere. I wouldn’t have hated a bit of background music, perhaps some Madeleine Peyroux or something similar to match the vibe, but other than that, I cannot wait to return.

Cute aesthetic for sure. If you want to spend $15 on microwaved food (seriously do not order the chicken), beer poured with too much head, and staff that will judge you for not ordering an IPA - this is the place for you. In

A unique setup for a pub and bookstore that hosts events. They have local brews, ciders, and a small food menu. I’d like to try some food next time I’m there. They have board games to play as well.

I was expecting this place to be nicer and better than it was. The floors need a good pressure washing and the whole place needs to be deep cleaned. There’s stuff stored in unusual places like under my seat and then there’s no place for feet. I want this place to succeed so I’m offering a kind suggestion on the cleanliness. I loved the books and the whole idea of the book pub.

This could become my favorite neighborhood place. It has good beer, good food, and lots and lots of books in a cozy, relaxing space. The physical layout hasn't changed much since it changed owners, but the feel of the place is light years away. It's a public house for private people.

I had a really great time coming here last night with my girlfriend. It's a great lively place with an amazing selection of books. There is a really nice assortment of beers on tap, I had a delicious porter and also this peach sweet tea mixed drink, both were excellent. It was very fun to wander around the shelves of books and choose various ones to read together. It was a great idea to combine books with a pub, I recommend checking this place out. Enjoyed meeting the owner too, she's great.

This is a wonderful venue if you want to go somewhere where you don't have to shout just to be heard across the table. It's got walls of books, and it has no television. If there's music, it was low enough that I couldn't hear it, and it's full of people who love to read and talk. Their venue calendar is quickly filled because it's such a good place to go, so if you want to hold an event there, make sure you contact the owners well ahead to schedule. The menu is limited, but the food was good.

This is one of my favorite study spots. Very friendly service. Very quiet. Not a ton of setting but enough space when I went. Prices on the used books are very cheap but you will want to stay so long that you won’t need to take it home. Plenty of variety with their beer on tap.

Rose City Book Pub is an Oregon treasure. From the minute you step inside you will discover you’ve entered a very special place. Book store meet awesome craft beer bar meet restaurant meet community hub. This is a space where people come to hang out, enjoy awesome drinks and food, and make use of the creative and open space offered. Very cool outdoor patio and great book selection. The owner (Elise) aka the “Publician” and crew of staff are super welcoming and fun. This will become your next favorite spot in Portland!
